ALICE – THE WORLD’S FIRST FULLY ELECTRIC PLANES

Meet Alice

Great, exciting and fantastic news! We’re super exited and thrilled. DHL Express has ordered this year no less than 12 fully electric planes. Our new aircraft, “Alice”, are the first fully electric plane in the world and will take to the skies for the first time at the end of this year.

DHL Express is the global leader in logistics and we have been setting the bar very high for many years. As a leading company, it is our responsibility to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations. That’s why DHL is investing heavily in ecological solutions. Electric bikes, electric vans and also a brand new CityHub in Antwerp are just a few examples of our approach. So the purchase of electric planes was a logical step in our strategy. Being CO2 neutral by 2050 is not only our challenge but also our goal. Our Alice will certainly be able to contribute a great deal to that.

Sustainable logistics in the future is unavoidable. We are deciding today what kind of world we and our children will be living in 30 years from now. And we are committed to making a substantial contribution to making it an even better world.

What can Alice do?

Not only does it need only one pilot in the cockpit, but it can also carry 1200 kg. That’s a nice number of DHL packages! Thanks to technological advances, the recharging time per flying hour is limited to 30 minutes. These electric planes can therefore be charged while loading and unloading all your packages. This reduces the time loss and makes it possible to respect our tight schedules.

In addition, she can cover a distance of 815 kilometres, a flight from Brussels Airport to beautiful Venice, for example. Alice can also be deployed wherever aircraft with piston or turbine engines are currently used. The advanced electric engines of our Alice have fewer moving parts than ordinary planes, which reduces maintenance costs. So Alice only brings advantages.

John pearson quote about electric planes

We firmly believe in a future with zero-emission logistics. Therefore, our investments always follow the objective of improving our carbon footprint. On our way to clean logistics operations, the electrification of every transport mode plays a crucial role and will significantly contribute to our overall sustainability goal of zero emissions

DHL Express and Eviation

Eviation is a Seattle-based international manufacturer of all-electric aircraft.

“The Alice aircraft provides an answer to the growing popularity of online shopping and instant deliveries. It also enables DHL to run non-polluting, quiet and low-cost operations. As a result, communities will also benefit,” said Roei Ganzarski, executive chairman of Eviation.

The designers did brainstorm a lot about the shape of Alice. Fast but also elegant. That is why Konstantin Ziman got his inspiration from an unexpected corner. The ocean. “Orcas cut through the water with efficiency, elegance and speed. I wanted to translate this concept into our design.” And you can’t deny it, Alice is a beauty.

Alice can be used for both cargo and passenger transport. In short, extremely good news for tackling global warming. A whole new chapter for the aviation industry can start thanks to these electric fleets. Eviation expects to be able to deliver Alice by 2024. Maybe your next package will be a carbon neutral delivery!
