Alter Pharma, DHL & Konings join forces in fighting covid

Alcoholgel

After donating 36.000 doses of paracetamol IV for immediate distribution to Belgian hospitals early April, Alter Pharma now decided to hand out 21.000 bottles of alcohol-based hand gel to pharmacies all over Belgium, in close cooperation with logistics partner DHL Same Day and bottling company Konings. As COVID-19 keeps on dominating our society, the demand and need for disinfectant hand gels remains constant.

How a pharmaceutical company, a bottling company and a logistics company work together

With the need for pharmaceutical support persisting – not only for the patients and healthcare providers but also for pharmacists – Alter Pharma reached out to bottling company Konings. They were already feeding a part of its alcohol production into the production of hand gels for pharmaceutical use. Konings’ CEO Joris Brams: “Konings has a considerable stock of alcohol. It receives a lot of support of its big suppliers. Thanks to them and our dedicated staff, we can produce alcohol-based disinfectant fast and on large scale”.

Of the sanitizers produced, Alter Pharma will now make 21.000 bottles of 700 ml available for pharmacies all over Belgium. They will be distributed mainly in regions where COVID-19 is spreading the fastest. DHL Same Day provided a tailored logistics solution to deliver the much-needed bottles at their destination without delay. DHL Same Day’s guiding principle is to connect people, businesses and communities to a better future through logistics. And that is exactly what we do by taking our part in this initiative. Our team of well-trained personnel was able to process all orders within due time and deliver it to all pharmacies all over Belgium.

Helping pharmacists be safe

The alcohol-based hand gels, produced in strict compliance with the WHO recipe, are distributed in trays of 12 bottles per pharmacy. The disinfectant is not destined for commercialization. It will help pharmacists and their staff in their fight against COVID-19. The aim is to keep them and their pharmacies as safe and healthy as possible.

“It feels good that we can help our business partners, the pharmacies, during these difficult times”, says Alter Pharma CEO, Filip Van de Vliet. “Pharmacies are part of the first line of defense against the Corona virus. It is our responsibility to support them to fulfill this role”.
