TadBlu Belgium is a small company that excels at making memorial jewelry, “that’s how I would describe us”, says Cynthia from TadBlu Belgium. “How we partnered with DHL Express is actually a very simple story. We were looking for an international partner who could give us a personalised approach. We wanted to comply with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainability is something we are very committed to. So it makes sense that our partnerships must also comply with this vision. Green shipping is a must.”
Sustainability is also a business priority for DHL Express. Our goal is to reduce all logistics-related CO2 emissions to zero by 2050. Innovation and efficiency allow us to reduce environmental impact. This way, we want to be an example when it comes to sustainability in the logistics sector.
How it all began
“I moved from the Netherlands to Belgium for Patrick, for love. It sounds cliché, but it’s true nonetheless. My job as a job counselor for people with disabilities unfortunately didn’t exist here. As a result, I started working in a refugee centre. I started to bond with the people and children. For instance, I built a very good bond with two siblings who fled their home country by themselves. The boy had a small bag of sand from his garden with him. It was the only thing that reminded him of home. I wanted to do something so that he could keep the sand. So I gave him a handmade bracelet which held the sand. When our friends saw the bracelet, they immediately said this would also be beautiful for mourning jewelry.”
So that’s how TadBlu started in 2015. In 2018, they continued with handmade, modern and sustainable jewelry. From the very beginning, they worked with sustainable materials such as leather, ship’s rope and steel. After one year, they had about 300 customers. The largest part of their revenue came from funeral homes.
“We found that there is a huge demand for it. Whether it is to have a keepsake of a dearest four-legged friend or of a dear family member. We can make a difference with our jewelry. We can give families something that lasts. They can always carry their loved one close to them. Through jewelry such as bracelets, we try to give a modern twist to the more traditional mourning jewelry that most people are familiar with.”

A partner to ship internationally
Due to their growth, they had to look for a partner to ship internationally. As their business has a very personal and sensitive touch to it, finding the right logistics partner was a challenge. “We really struggled with other carriers. Either the package got lost, or it arrived too late. We never had a contact person if things went wrong. Social integration
TadBlu is also specifically committed to social inclusion of women. “Why women? That’s a question I get asked quite often. Through my work at the refugee centre, I started to notice a couple of things. For example: women have a harder time in finding a job. Their intregration is more difficult due their lack of education, their language skills or because their culture doesn’t allow them to work with men. That is why I want to do my bit. I want to offer a solution for women. I want to give them the opportunity to learn our language and to work.”
