Temperature Controlled Packaging
Our thermo-packaging solutions have been extensively tested and validated to ensure maximum reliability, strength and durability. They are highly visible and marked as “extremely urgent” to ensure priority handling in the network.
Temperature Options
We offer temperature controlled packaging solutions in various shapes and sizes, accustomed to the desired temperature range:
1. Ambient = ambient temperature
2. Controlled Ambient = 15 to 25°C
3. Chilled (cooled) = 2 to 8°C
4. Frozen = < -20°C
5. Liquid Nitrogen Dry Shipper= -80°C
Dry Ice Solution
We also provide a dry ice solution for customers who do not have their own dry ice capabilities. DHL has its own resources to supply dry ice to our customers. We offer two types of dry ice: sticks or plates. Plates last longer and are used for shipping to destinations with extended transit times.
GDP Friendly
Thanks to our many years of experience, we are very familiar with the requirements of the EU Directive on Good Distribution Practice (GDP) for the shipping of human pharmaceuticals.

Medical Express Deep Dive
We offer a transparent price and surcharge logic. It’s very likely that the usual surcharges of a competitor will not be charged by us.
We offer a door-to-door service that can’t be compared with traditional airfreight.
If the service of DHL Express is not yet regarded as a valuable alternative, then we advise to carry out the requirement analysis again.
Full Loop Service combines 2 or 3 (reusable packaging only) step shipping solution involving a multi-leg journey for shipments where packaging is required.
We are able to offer a wide range of temperature controlled packaging solutions.
Packaging that is delivered to the investigators provides everything needed to send a compliant shipment with all the right credentials:
– Shipping labels for all legs
– Invoices
– Any other documents
The “all in one” box concept delivers the shipment to the investigator in an overpack – Leg 1
Inside the overpack is the box that will be used to send the example/medication to its destination – Leg 2
Packaging has all the necessary labels (AWB) and IATA marking (DG) preprinted on it.

We will go through the subject in detail with you and we will involve our customs experts and team of specialists like COG to explain the customs requirement in each country. If shipments travel with the correct PPWRK there won’t be any issues
New services, such as Paperless Trade (PLT), may make it possible for paperless processing of customs documents.

GDP applies to the receiving storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals and is either regulated or produced as a guideline by national security.
The objective of GDP Every consignment is delivered on time, in good condition, every time, fit for purpose and without incident ensuring that there is no impact on the quality.
Compliance with GDP ensures that:
- Medicines in the supply chain are authorized in accordance with EU legislation.
- Medicines are stored in the right conditions at all times, including during transportation.

Hospital collections and deliveries
Highlight the advantages of DHL as a global logistics company that could be a reliable partner that shares and desires service excellence. We understand the complexity of the LSH and Clinical Research Industry and are able to provide best-in-class service throughout our dedicated LSH team.
We understand the impact of delivering directly to the hospital wards and we ensure our couriers fully comply with this requirement.
In some cases the hospital’s internal policy does not allow couriers to enter the hospital wards directly. These could be the only cases when DHL is not able to fulfill this requirement.
Re-icing
We recommend our customers to always use the right type of packaging that can keep the content in the right temperature during its journey (validation). DHL offers a wide range of Temperature Controlled Packaging (TCP) including dry ice and preconditioning service.
DHL has a “clean floos policy”. Our goal is to always keep the shipments moving. Re-icing would only be needed in case of unforeseen events, where due to transit delay the journey of the shipment would take longer than what the packaging has been validated for. Should this happen, we have options to re-ice your shipment. If this is necessary, it can be requested via customer service. We need your written consent for it.
